How to Get Out of a Funk: Simple Ways to Lift Your Mood Naturally

Updated: Feb 17

We all have periods where we go through a funk that we can’t seem to shake off. I’m no stranger to it myself even with all of the work I’ve done. But these days, I know how to get out of it

As we are coming into springtime with the hope of warmer weather upon us, here’s another positive message of Inspiration as a reminder for you to keep on working on your vibrations, to raise your energy so you can attract better energies back to yourself and get much better results with what you are desiring!

But let’s go back a step and talk about why you can get in a funk in the first place.

You know when you’re in a funk but you may not know how you got there.

For me, it’s closely connected to the bigger picture of what I’m eating and how I’m living my life.

The funk that inspired this blog post and the video I’ll share with you later definitely came from this.

As we move into springtime with the hope of warmer weather upon us, I wanted to share another positive message with you, especially if you’ve been feeling a little flat, heavy or stuck lately.

Because let’s be honest… we all get into a funk sometimes.

And in those moments, you might wonder how to get out of a funk or even just how to get out of a bad mood quickly when it feels like it’s dragging on.

Life affects us. Sleep, food, stress, hormones, conversations, even the weather can influence how we feel.

But while low moods and funks happen, staying stuck in them longer than necessary is something we can gently shift.

Why we get stuck in a funk

Sometimes a low mood is triggered by something obvious — an argument, disappointment or over-indulging (hello junk food).

Other times, it creeps in quietly. A build-up of stress. Overthinking. Comparing yourself to others. Not moving your body enough.

When we don’t interrupt it, one negative thought can lead to another. Before we know it, we’ve created a whole story in our minds.

That’s why awareness is powerful.

You are not your mood. You are the observer of it.

Inspiration for a miserable mood

If you’re looking for inspiration for a miserable mood, here’s something gentle but honest:

Don’t wait to feel inspired. Take action first.

Action creates momentum. Momentum creates energy. Energy shifts your state.

When I feel myself spiralling into thought patterns I’d rather not have, I get up and “do the work.” I apply the tools. I practise the strategies. Especially when I don’t feel like it.

How to lift your mood naturally and get out of a funk

You don’t need anything dramatic. Small shifts work beautifully.

Here are simple ways to lift your mood naturally:

  • Move your body (a walk, stretching, dancing in the kitchen!)

  • Step outside and get fresh air

  • Open a window and change your environment

  • Drink water and nourish your body properly

  • Play uplifting music

  • Write down three things you’re grateful for

  • Limit scrolling and comparison

Even five minutes can change your state.

Often, it’s not the situation keeping us stuck. It’s the repetition of the thought about the situation.

Interrupt the thought. Shift the action. Change the energy.

Even if the mood was self-inflicted (another lesson learned 😉), there is always a reset available.

If you’d like an extra boost, I made a short video with inspiration for how I get myself out of a funk

It’s my purpose to share positivity and remind you that you deserve to feel good. Low days do not define you. They are simply moments passing through.

Share your light with those who need it.

Stay positive 💛
